The Academy, upon the inspiration of its 2007 President, Edward Lack, MD, founded the Cosmetic Surgery Standards Panel to assist its members in responding to false advertising, consumer deception, and anti-competitive conduct, and to improve the legal and regulatory climate applicable to the practice of cosmetic surgery. The second of a series of comprehensive informational packets, entitled Litigation Assistance Informational Packet (Packet), was designed to provide valuable information to attorneys representing cosmetic surgeons who are facing anti-competitive and other improper conduct in various legal, administrative, and government forums. The Packet arms cosmetic surgeons, and specifically their attorneys, with information regarding the cosmetic surgeons’ legal rights in opposing their competitors’ improper attempts to preclude them from practicing cosmetic surgery.
