By Dr. J. Kevin Duplechain, AACS President-Elect, 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting Chair
Since we introduced the 2021 Virtual Annual Scientific Meeting in the previous issue of The Consult, the Meeting Planning Committee and I have been hard at work creating a dynamic and engaging program that makes the best of our online platform. From February 3-28, you’ll be able to attend events live or watch them later on-demand and earn more than 30 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
We recently announced details about our upcoming live surgery sessions, where you’ll be able to watch live streams of renowned experts performing procedures up close. On Friday, February 5, you’ll see three different facelift procedures. Dr. L. Mike Nayak, creator of some of the most innovative facelift techniques, will show us the deep necklift and deep plane facelift from Nayak Plastic Surgery in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Niamtu, a well-known expert in international cosmetic facial surgery circles, will perform his SMAS facelift and necklift technique at Niamtu Cosmetic Surgery Facial Center in Virginia, and Dr. Richard D. Gentile, pioneer of scarless, laser-assisted facelift and necklift procedures, will present the energy-driven facelift from the Gentile Facial Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Center in Ohio. Combined with the multiple world-renowned experts presenting during the Facelift Master Session, this event promises to be the best of the season.
On February 12, I’ll moderate a session that will be streamed live from Southern Surgical Arts in Chattanooga, Tennessee. There, we’ll watch Dr. Mike Kluska perform the popular “Mommy Makeover” procedure, including demonstrations of breast augmentation and abdominoplasty. Dr. Kluska is a past president of AACS and combines artistic knowledge with many years of surgical experience. We’ll also join AACS certified Fellowship Program Director Dr. Chad Deal as he performs VASER and hi-def liposuction procedures and a Brazilian Butt Lift. Dr. Deal is known for his extensive knowledge of body anatomy and has been presenting on Brazilian Butt Lifts for nearly ten years.
Our final live-streamed procedures will take place on Saturday, February 13. Tune in then for patient demonstrations of injectables and fillers. More details on this session will be available soon.
We’ve also identified some of the most recognized names in cosmetic surgery to lead our Master Sessions, which are designed to showcase the latest techniques and research. Dr. Daria Hamrah will lead the Rhinoplasty Master Session, Dr. Paul Rose and Dr. Marco Barusco will lead Hair Restoration, Dr. Samir Pancholi will lead the Breast session, Dr. Jeff Swetnam will lead the Body session, and Dr. Marco Pelosi III and Dr. Mark Lowney will lead Cosmetic Gynecology. Be sure to stay tuned for interactive Q&A sessions following each Master Session presentation.
The theme of interactive Q&A continues at our all-new Connect sessions, focused on current issues in cosmetic surgery. These one-hour sessions will take place in the evenings throughout the month of February. Don’t miss Dr. Joe Niamtu covering “Facelift Techniques,” Dr. Arian Mowlavi’s “Brazilian Butt Lift” session, “Managing Eyelid Complications” with Dr. Nicole Langelier, “Social Media” with Dr. Amiya Prasad, who will discuss how he grew his following and give you tips on how to grow yours, “Breast Implant Illness” with Dr. James Koehler, who will focus on the current understanding of breast implant illness and go over case studies, my “Advocacy” session, which will be co-moderated by me and Linda Murphy, our AACS state-to-state lobbyist, and “Injection Complications” with Dr. Lisa Chipps. During each Connect presentation, you’ll get to chat with the experts and fellow meeting attendees on the topic.
The comprehensive 2021 program also includes sessions that will benefit your entire cosmetic surgery business and will be great for your staff to attend. On Friday, February 5, Dr. Mark Mandell-Brown will present the Surgical Nurse Program that offers CNE credit and covers topics like infections in the operating room, accreditation, and working with difficult patients. On Saturday, February 6, Dr. Talon Maningas is taking charge of the “Business of Cosmetic Surgery” session, where you’ll learn about how to run a successful practice from a doctor’s point of view. Marsha Steed, co-chair of the Allied Health & Practice Development Committee, will lead the February 12 Practice Management session, open to physicians and their staff, which covers consultations, customer loyalty, the patient experience, and more. And, if you’ve ever wondered which device to use for which procedure, join Dr. Neil Sadick on February 13 for his Best Devices session.
One of this year’s meeting highlights will be when we honor Mr. Peter Canalia, ABCS’s Executive Director for over 30 years as this year’s Webster Award Recipient on February 6 at 2:00pm central time. This award presentation and speech will be an absolute can’t-miss event.
Finally, you won’t want to miss all the other opportunities to connect on the schedule. Mark your calendar for the AACS Business Meeting and Presidential Address with Dr. Mark Mandell-Brown and Town Hall with AACS Executive Director Colleen Nolan on February 4, the Women in Cosmetic Surgery Session on February 5, and the dynamic Webster Event to benefit the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation on February 6.
