Since its formation in 1985, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery has grown to become the leading representative of cosmetic surgery practitioners from a diverse array of original medical disciplines.

Furthering this effort, the American Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgery, the American Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, and the American Society of Liposuction Surgery were formed as subspecialty groups within the Academy.
