As the world’s only laser medical specialty board, the American Board of Laser Surgery believes laser practitioners require maximum understanding of laser tissue interaction and safety to provide the best treatments for their patients. The Board was founded in 1984 to provide education and certification for lasers in medicine and surgery. We empower our Diplomates with both education and certification using our proprietary Study Guide and written and oral examinations.
Over 800 Diplomates have earned the ABLS Certification so they can:
- Maximize knowledge of laser and light biophysics to create exceptional patient outcomes

ABLS study materials and certifying examinations cover fundamental laser science, laser and light tissue interaction, ethics, equipment selection, and laser safety best practices. Certification is a three-step process:
- Submit application for review and acceptance
- Prepare for online written examinations with the Study Guide
- Complete oral specialty examination and assessment virtually
