Elie Ferneini, MD, DMD, Editor-in-Chief, American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery

The American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery had its annual Editorial Review Board meeting on February 11, 2021. During that meeting, the publisher’s report was presented. Some highlights of the report include the following:
1. We had 72% more submissions in 2020 than in 2019.
2. On average, articles spend between 4-5 weeks in production before appearing online first. This time is competitive. We saw no delays in 2020 even with the COVID-19 pandemic.
3. Online readership was up 9% in 2020 compared to 2019.
Dr. Erik Nuveen won the best paper of the year for his manuscript titled, “Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Protocol for Out-Patient Body Lift Surgery.” Dr. Mo Banki won the reviewer of the year award for his timely and in-depth review. Other honorable mentions included Drs. Jane Petro, Joe Niamtu, Angelo Cuzalina, Suzan Obagi, Howard Tobin, and Sergio Noviello.
The Editorial Review Board discussed the goal to apply to PubMed Central in 2021. It can take a year for PubMed to review our journal, and then up to 2-3 years if rejected to apply again, so we will carefully assess when we apply. Our goal is to engage our members to be more active in publishing and continue more special issues. We would also like to encourage the submission of videos alongside articles, which will be valuable to readers.
