The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) conducts an annual certification exam in the early fall of each year. In order to achieve certification, the applicant must pass both a written and oral component. Applicants can acquire information by going to the ABCS website.

Applications are accepted starting in December of the prior year up until March 1. Qualified applicants must have completed an AACS Certified Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship or qualify for fellowship equivalency prior to the general application. Applicants must have completed their primary specialty board certification OR completed an ACGME surgical residency.

They also must currently have Operating Room privileges in a hospital or approved accredited facility. A complete application, curriculum vitae, letters of reference, valid ACLS card, and copies of current/ unrestricted state medical licenses must be submitted for approval with each application.
