For Education, Research, and Patient Safety
The Cosmetic Surgery Foundation was formed in 2000 as the first and only organization to represent the interests of cosmetic surgery and serves as the research and education arm of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. It achieves these goals through our funding of research, educational programming, and other training initiatives, to expand our knowledge base and elevate awareness within the cosmetic surgery community and the public at large.
To date, the Foundation has awarded over $1 million in research and educational grants. Perhaps most importantly, the fruits of these labors – including Dr. Jeffrey Klein’s ground-breaking development of tumescent liposuction – have made significant impacts to physicians practicing cosmetic surgery and their patients across the globe.
As a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, the Foundation maintains a steadfast commitment to the advancement of the science of cosmetic surgery and the enhancement of patient safety and trust. By supporting the Foundation, you are supporting your Academy!

How Your Donation Supports the Foundation’s Mission
The Cosmetic Surgery Foundation supports and encourages consistent, innovative, and aggressive research in the multidisciplinary specialty of cosmetic surgery. Since 2006, the Foundation has been awarding educational research grants to eligible surgeons that wish to impact science through original research.
Your donation to the Annual Fund is used to fund mission-centric programs related to research grants, scholarships, patient safety, and service.
Gifts & Planned Giving
Endowment Gift
An endowment gift to the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation today provides a brighter picture for our future. When you make a donation to our endowment, you give a gift with both immediate and long-term benefits. Endowment donations are invested. A portion of the annual income from the investment is used to address immediate needs at the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation. The remaining funds are reinvested to ensure indefinite support.
Matching Gift Program
Maximize your donation to the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation through Matching Gift Programs. Employee Matching Gifts are donations that an employer makes, matching their employees charitable contributions. Employer contributions are usually a dollar-for-dollar match, but they can be double, triple, or even quadruple. Ask your employer if they have a matching gift program and make your contribution go even further. Please contact Eileen Hansen, Fundraising Manager for needed documentation.
Charitable IRA Contributions
If you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly without having to pay income taxes on the money. This law no longer has an expiration date, so you are free to make annual gifts to our organization this year and well into the future. This transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit if you do not itemize your deductions. If you have not yet taken your required minimum distribution for the year, your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of this requirement. Please contact the Eileen Hansen, Fundraising Manager for more details.
Living Wills, Estates, and Trusts
Perhaps you want to leave money to the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation in your will, and you also want the flexibility to change your will in the event that life circumstances change. You can do both. In as little as one sentence, you can complete your gift. This type of donation to the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation in your will or living trust helps ensure that we can support cosmetic surgery for years to come. Please contact the Eileen Hansen, Fundraising Manager for more details.
