AACS Certified Cosmetic Fellowship Program

Fellowship Match Tips and Rules

Tips for Applicants

  • Research the fellowship programs. Identify those that align with your career goals and meet any geographical location or personal life restrictions.
  • Be selective. Don’t pursue any fellowship program that you are not committed to attending.
  • Update your CV.  Make sure you highlight any cosmetic surgery experience you have had.
  • Request your three letters of recommendation early. Ask those that can attest to your surgical and interpersonal skills.
  • Prepare for the interview. The interview is an opportunity for the both parties to see if you are a good fit for the practice.

Match Rules

AACS Certified Fellowships use a match process to allow Program Directors and Applicants an opportunity to interview candidates in an orderly manner. The following rules must be followed by both the Applicant and Program Director.  Violations may result in loss of opportunity for both applicants and programs.

  • AACS Certified Fellowships match takes place on June 15th and is the first application phase for those who want to start their fellowship training the following year. January start date applications are handled on a rolling basis. Applications received after June 1st are sent to open programs only post-match.
  • Fellowship Programs and Applicants agree not to make any appointments prior to the match.
  • Neither party may ask the other for a commitment either during or after the interview. Statements like “I will rank you first if you rank me first,” are against the rules. “You are one of the best program/applicants I have interviewed with.” is fine.
  • All rank lists must be submitted by June 1st and are confidential. No changes to a rank list will be made after the deadline date.
  • The Fellowship Program and Applicant are bound by the match results unless an Applicant does not meet the prerequisite requirements and is unable to get a medical license in the fellowship program state.
