Program Description

This one-year Facial Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship is offered under the direction of Dr. Nizam, a recognized leader who serves on the board of facial cosmetic surgery.

The program provides intensive, focused training across all facets of facial cosmetic surgery, conducted within our QUAD A-accredited surgical facilities.

As Alabama Surgical Arts operates as a hybrid Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) practice, the Fellow will also gain significant supplemental experience, including:

  • Advanced Full-Arch Dental Implant Placement: Utilizing a comprehensive digital workflow.
  • MedSpa Operations: Hands-on experience within our integrated medical spa.
  • Hybrid Practice Management: Exposure to the operational dynamics of running a dual-focus surgical practice.

An additional elective opportunity is available to gain further expertise in Rhinoplasty through training with Dr. Kapil Siegl in Orlando, Florida, during the fellowship year.

Training Fellow Prerequisites

This fellowship is exclusively open to dual-degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MD/DDS or MD/DMD) who are eligible to obtain both medical and dental licenses within the state of Alabama. Fellows must be board eligible from one of the surgical specialties listing in the AACS fellowship guidelines.

About

Dr. Sami A Nizam, II was born in Daytona Beach, FL, and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville for his undergraduate training. Following graduation, he stayed in his home state and attended Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, graduating 4th in his class. Upon graduation, he earned the Horace Wells senior award for anesthesia, as well as the American College of Dentist Ethics Award.

After earning his DMD degree, he completed a 1 year internship at LSU in New Orleans, where he was introduced to modern concepts of post traumatic facial reconstruction. Dr. Nizam then matriculated into the 6 year integrated Oral and Maxillofacial Residency (OMFS) program at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. He selected this institution to train at as it seamlessly blended the medical and dental world with his time split evenly between the hospital and dental school.

During this time, he completed medical school at Rutgers, earning his MD. He then completed 1 year of General Surgery at University Hospital, in Newark, NJ. Dr. Nizam then entered into an AACS accredited cosmetic surgery fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Rhys Branman at The Cosmetic Surgery Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. During his fellowship he completed over 650 cosmetic surgery cases. Dr. Nizam has simultaneously been in private practice since 2013.
