Program Description

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Certified Fellowship in Lafayette, Louisiana is led by fellowship director Dr. J. Kevin Duplechain. Fellows will gain experience in Dr. Duplechain’s practice, which encompasses all aspects of general cosmetic surgery training, including facelift, rhinoplasty, brow and eyelid rejuvenation, otoplasty, breast and body contouring/lifting, facial and body fat grafting, hair restoration, and non-invasive rejuvenation techniques including injectables, lasers, and various skin tightening devices.

The fellowship is designed to educate and prepare qualified surgeons for successful practice in cosmetic surgery. The program is extremely hands-on, and fellows will actively participate in all aspects of patient care, from consultation to surgery to final post-operative care visits.

The fellowship is located in an AAAHC accredited office surgical suite on a medical campus in the heart of Lafayette. Fellows will have access to a variety of minimally invasive devices and lasers, as well as a large volume injector practice.

A typical weekly schedule consists of 2 clinic days and 3 operative days. The caseload is 1000-1200 annually. Stipends and benefits should be discussed with the Program Director.

Completion of this AACS accredited fellowship may allow the fellow to be eligible to sit the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery examinations and become ABCS board certified.

Research

Participation in clinical research is encouraged and supported. Per the AACS Fellowship Guidelines, a publishable quality paper is to be submitted at the end of the clinical year. Opportunities are available to publish on cosmetic surgery, injectable fillers and minimally invasive devices. On request, fellows can dedicate time on clinic days to complete research projects. Depending on the need for office coverage, fellows are able to attend conferences to present their research.

Teaching

Clinical appointments at LSU Medical School and Tulane University Medical School may be available with the opportunity for a stipend if a teaching position is granted. This position is currently only available for otolaryngology-trained fellows.

The Training Fellow will take call for Dr. Duplechain’s private practice on weekdays and on average will receive 1-2 calls for advice after hours per week.
