Siamak Agha-Mohammadi, MD, PhD Post-Bariatric Plastic Surgery
Siamak Agha-Mohammadi, MD PhD, is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon who completed his medical education at the University of Cambridge, England, and his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center; one of the most respected and comprehensive Plastic Surgery training programs in the States. Dr Agha has a special interest in aesthetic surgical procedures for breast reshaping and body contouring, as well as post-bariatric plastic surgery. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in plastic surgery and post-bariatric body contouring. |

Kacey Marra, Ph.D. Adipose-derived Stem Cell Therapies in Plastic Surgery Research
Kacey Marra, Ph.D., is recognized for her interdisciplinary research in regenerative medicine. Kacey joined the Department of Surgery as an Assistant Professor in November 2002, and is the Director of the Plastic Surgery Research Laboratory. Dr. Marra is actively involved in research efforts investigating polymeric biomaterials and stem cell therapies for biomedical applications. Her research is focused on the utilization of adipose-derived stem cells for tissue engineering applications such as cartilage, fat, and bone regeneration. Additionally, a major research effort in her laboratory is the long-term delivery of neurotrophic factors for long gap nerve repair. |

Maria Siemionow, MD, PhD, DSc The First U.S. Face Transplant: From the Laboratory to the Operating Room
Maria Siemionow is a world renowned scientist and micro-surgeon. In 2008, Dr. Siemionow led the team of surgeons that performed the first near-total face transplantation in the United States. She earned her medical degree from the Poznan Medical Academy in 1974, after which she completed her residency in orthopedics, and then earned a PhD in microsurgery. In 1985, she completed a hand surgery fellowship at the Christine Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Ky. She specializes in microsurgery, hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, transplantation, and microcirculation research. Dr. Siemionow is also leading the way in developing new technology for minimal immunosuppression in transplantation.
Dr. Siemionow is the Director of Plastic Surgery Research and Head of Microsurgical Training for Cleveland Clinic's Department of Plastic Surgery.
As Director of Plastic Surgery Research and Head of Microsurgical Training, Dr. Siemionow has trained over 100 international Fellows in the field of microsurgery and transplantation research. She is currently the Secretary of the American Society for Reconstructive Transplantation, as well as the Section Coordinator of Research for the International Registry on Hand and Composite Tissue Transplantation. She is also Past President of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve. |

M. Eugene Tardy, MD The Rhinoplasty Surgeon Never Graduates: Evolution and Perspectives
Gene Tardy is recognized nationally and internationally foremost for his contributions to education and techniques in facial plastic surgery and rhinoplasty. Dr. Tardy attended Indiana University, where received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Zoology, before beginning medical school at Indiana University in 1956. His general internship was spent at Tampa General Hospital, where he continued his training in General/Cardiovascular Surgery until being drafted into the US Air Force where he was appointed to the post of Commander of the 838th TAC Hospital. Dr. Tardy completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Illinois in Chicago as the Executive Resident, completing a post-residency Fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery.
Among professional leadership responsibilities, Tardy has been elected as President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, and President of the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. Academic contributions include the authoring or co-authoring of 18 medical textbooks and over 160 scientific articles. He has participated at over 400 venues as guest professor/faculty lecturer at universities world-wide. Of his accomplishments, Dr. Tardy is most proud and gratified by the continuing achievements of the over 40 personal Fellows who have trained in his Chicago program. In 2005, the inaugural M. Eugene Tardy, MD Lectureship in Facial Plastic Surgery and the Humanities was established at the University of Illinois, held in conjunction with the Department of Otolaryngology's Alumni Day. Dr. Tardy is married to Martha Heindel Tardy, with three daughters and seven grandchildren. |

Kurt J. Wagner, M.D. Cosmetic Surgery, The Past, The Present, The Future
Kurt J. Wagner, M.D. relocated to Florida after a successful 30-year practice in Beverly Hills, CA. A fifth generation physician and holocaust survivor, Dr. Wagner is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from New York University and State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. He received his surgical training at Long Island Jewish Hospital at Cedars of Lebanon in Los Angeles, followed by Plastic Surgery residencies in Oklahoma and at New York Hospital. He was the Chief of Plastic Surgery in the U.S. Air Force for North Central and Northeastern U.S. before starting his private practice in California.
He is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and is a life member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is the coauthor of How to Win in the Youth Game, Beauty by Design, and The War Against Aging and the founder of the American Society of Aesthetic Reconstructive Surgery. His breast and chin implant designs are in universal use and his techniques have been the subject of many television, newspaper and magazine pieces. Dr. Wagner is credited with bringing the once "hush hush" subject of plastic surgery into mainstream America through numerous consumer television shows and publications including The Merv Griffin Show, Wicker's World Family Circle, Look and People Magazines. Many Hollywood celebrities can be counted in his cast of over 20,000 patients but perhaps more importantly, a litany of plastic surgeons and their families as well. |
